Happy Son-Day!!!

One week to Acts of the Apostles Chapter 2
Pentecost – June 5

This week’s video link: “Summer, Start Your Engine”

Trusting The Fruit

Last Saturday, I got up early, watched a few fishing/angling shows, did my chores from Jo’s endless job jar, and decided to treat myself to nice, quiet, and relaxing breakfast with my freshly delivered newspaper at a breakfast nook in Maple Grove.

The waitressed took me to my table.  I got comfortable in my chair I put in my air pods to listen to my sports podcast and flipped my newspaper open to peruse the headlines. Ahhhh, Bobby nirvana.

Then!!!!

I heard a faint call of my name three times.   I was like, who knows me here? I removed by air pods, closed the paper, and scanned the restaurant.  And there was Scott calling my name.  Hey, Bob, hey Bob!  Scott is a former football coach who last helped six years ago while his son was involved in the program.  He is a likable sort, but when he gets an audience, you will be in a one-sided conversation for at least 90 minutes.

Scott continues, “Bob, are you dining alone?  Come join me and my family”. I hear the proverbial screeching of a phonograph stylus on a record.  A thunderstorm cell is forming over my breakfast paradise. Noooooooooo!  I was set.  I was looking forward to this “Me” time for two days.

The not nice Bobby was thinking, “How can I get out of this gracious invitation?”  The Holy Spirit in a very still voice said, “patience, kindness, and goodness”.

I took a breath, found my peace, and answered, “Hi, Scott, I will join you”.

I gathered my Bobby Saturday breakfast accoutrements and placed them in my backpack. I joined Scott, his wife and son.  And on que, Scott started the conversation.  He is quite oblivious to his incessant chatter.  The term for this it is, “Garrulous” a person just won't stop talking (and talking, and talking, and talking).

Approximately ten minutes into what has become a catch-up monolog, Scott’s wife interrupts.  She senses the need to for Scott to come up for air.  We both converse about what we like about neighborhoods and people.  She mentions her contribution to the community is volunteer work with the City planning commission.

Scott’s wife (I cannot remember name) tells me the city is in the infancy stages of planning new park and community changes that will require a new bond request to voters.  The City always states they want community input, but they never get it from community stakeholders such as the executive members of the Brooklyn Park Athletic Association (BPAA).  I am one of the executive members.

My breakfast with Scott’s family lasted about 45 minutes.  I enjoyed my time with them.

On the following Tuesday, the BPAA executive team met with the City park and rec officials or our monthly meeting.  We cover the normal routine agenda items.  When this was completed, I asked the officials if there any new agenda items or updates they want to bring to the table.  They quickly said no.

I said au contraire.  I asked them about the “change talks”.  They were shocked.  The first response was very political, “We cannot confirm these talks are happening”.  To which I said, “That’s actually a confirmation the talks are happening”.  The officials conceded and then asked for our input.

God had His way. Please recognize His miraculous works even in its seemingly smallest manifestation.

BPAA can now get on the ground floor of how to spend millions of dollars to make our city better for our kiddos.

This is an example of how the Fruit of the Spirit, “patience, kindness, and goodness” (Galatians 5:22) can directly and indirectly impact a small family and an entire city from a breakfast fellowship.

I will leave you with this passage about being persistently GOOD from Galatians 6:8-10

"Those who live to please the Holy Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Holy Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what is GOOD. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone."

Angels

"Take this man to prison, " the man heard Herod say,

And then four squads of soldiers came and carried him away.

Chained up between two watchmen, Peter tried to sleep,

But beyond the walls an endless prayer was lifting for his keep.

Then a light cut through the darkness of a lonely prison cell,

And the chains that bound the man of God just opened up and fell,

And running to his people before the break of day,

There was only one thing on his mind, only one thing to say:

Angels watching over me, every move I make,

Angels watching over me!

Angels watching over me, every step I take,

Angels watching over me!

God only knows the times my life was threatened just today.

A reckless car ran out of gas before it ran my way.

Near misses all around me, accidents unknown,

Though I never see with human eyes the hands that lead me home.

But I know they're all around me all day and through the night.

When the enemy is closing in, I know sometimes they fight

To keep my fight from falling, I'll never turn away.

If you're asking what's protecting me then you're gonna hear me say:

Got his angels watching over me, every move I make,

Angels watching over me!

Angels watching over me, every step I take,

Angels watching over me

Angels watching over me

Angels watching over me

Got his angels watching over me, every move I make,

Angels watching over me!

Angels watching over me, every step I take,

Angels watching over me!

Angels watching over me,

Angels watching over me,

Angels watching over me,

Angels watching over me!

Though I never see with human eyes the hands that lead me home
