Seriously, For Real!!!

Image
Happy Son-Day!!! Wicked Walleye Before I get started, I want to acknowledge that the world will miss the love and generosity of Mother Nancy Sorrell who passed this last week.  She was genuinely a remarkable saint who loved and people.  She always put forth her best on anything she did.  We will miss her now, but she her later for sure. Seriously, For Real??!!!  Now some meanderings.  Jo and I finally returned to Lifetime Fitness after a two-year absence due to the pandemic.  We are both conscious of clean hands, not touching our faces, and distance from others while working out. New to our routine is steps and swimming as ways of conserving and preserving our joints.  A few weeks back, Alex and I were reminiscing fondly about our Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer years at Theodore Wirth Lake.  That is when swimming was fun.   The ultimate goal for all "cool" kids at that the beach was to swim out to the deep-water platform.  That is when you knew you had arrived as a swimmer.  Now, i

The 42nd Iteration . . .

Good Son-Day Morning!!! Sunday Social The 42 nd Iteration . . . . . . of a constantly growing, evolving, and rewarding romance will begin on Tuesday.   The last 41 iterations have been “Yar” (i.e., a nautical term for a grand ship built right for fun and action).   In our journey together, we have come to appreciate the honor and privilege of a relationship honed by the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Last Sunday, my dear curious sister, Molly, asked me to write about our relationship.   I will start by saying the legacy or our marriage will not be about it’s longevity.   It will be about why we been together and looking for more.   It will be about what “God has put together” (Mark 10:9).    HE blesses individuals and HE blesses marriages. Some marriages are like a horror film comparable to “The Bride of Frankenstein”.   The preferred comparison is to have a rom-com-adventure marriage like “The Jewel of the Nile”; which was fun, loving, and adventurous.   These attributes make

Fight the Good Fight of Faith

Happy Son-Day Southern Comfort A Dancing Delight in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Fight the Good Fight of Faith Football for the kiddos is on the horizon.   It was time for me to ready our equipment for issue in August.   Last Thursday, I met up with 8 th grade head coach who has followed his team since 2 nd grade.   After we finished our work, we were shooting the breeze outside the equipment shed. He started talking about inflation and mentioned he cannot wait we get the real president back in office.   Which of course led into a discussion about politics.   Spoiler alert: the purpose of this article is not about politics. We went back and forth about Economics 101, which touched base on economic cycles of prosperity and downturns.   Much of the economic outcome has little to do with what the president is doing and more so to do with other political and economic factors. We talked about the Big Lie and Fake News.   Lastly, we talked about the moral failure and our democra

Summer Smiles

Happy Son-day! I am a little late today.   I wanted to include some snapshots of family and friends.   You are a spark in life. Summer Smiles    Its Not Complicated I was recently told, “Life is short.   Go on as many vacations as you can and then you die. That’s what life is about”.   The meaning of life summed up in two sentences. I decided to dust off my old college philosophy books to see if I missed this chapter in the textbook.   What I found was this regarding the meaning of life . . . Yet another one, the meaning of life is in attaining the highest form of knowledge, which is the Idea of the Good, from which all good and just things derive utility and value. (Plato) The meaning of life is in attaining the highest form of knowledge, which is the Idea (Form) of the Good, from which all good and just things derive utility and value. (Kant) One-liner meanings of life . . . Cynicism – be self-sufficient Hedonism – have pleasure now Platonism – as seen above, acqui

Freedom is Not Free

Happy Son-Day! 7 Fabulous "F's" Fourth, Family, Friends, Fun, , Food, Fireworks, & Fishing Happy Independence Day! While I was in DC a few weeks admiring the Korean War Memorial, I was struck by the engraving the side of one the memorial walls, that said, “Freedom is Free”.   You can see it in the video (video link - https://youtu.be/r1b-Gac6ROI ) at the 7:18 mark.   In this country, freedom is often thought of being able to do whatever I want.    We even have a movie franchise built on reckless freedom, the “Purge”.   The truth is every country, organization, company, business, group, and yes, family operate within the construct of some rules. Our democracy is based on the Constitution.   The base of freedom as believers in Christ was first based the decalogue aka the Ten Commandments Exodus 20:1-17: It starts, “I am the Lord thy God.   I brought you out of Egypt and the land of slavery . . . “ 1.   You shall not have any other Gods before me 2.    &
