Who is this pretty sister?

Friday night, I decided to catch up on a few of my Disney Plus playlist items.  In other words binge time.  I watched a six episode series and a movie.  The watched items were, as they say, “Aight”.

The movie and series were a battle of good over supernatural evil.  The antagonists were more powerful than the heroes, which follows the Hollywood formula of the hero is only as good as the villain. The heroes were able to attain victory only through cunning and guile because they were unable to vanquish the enemy through 1:1, man-to-man combat.  The enemy was too powerful.  

While this makes for good entertainment, the reality is “Real Good”, the supernatural power of God is all powerful.  It does not does not depend on gimmicks, tricks, out-smarting, and coincidence to defeat the enemy.

When the enemy thought he vanquished Christ on the cross within three days he witnessed that God had power over the enemy’s most powerful weapon, death.  One of my favorite scriptures comes from 1 Corinthians 15:55-57

O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our 

Lord Jesus Christ.

Back in the day we sang the songs, “Victory is Mine”,  “Victory, Victory Shall be Mine”, and “Victory in Jesus”.  The elders had it right when they were encouraging you not to despair in trying situations.  Your God is all powerful and overcome anything you are facing. He has already destroyed the worst you can face.

He has freed you from the shackles of death with life ant that more abundantly might I add, and to boot eternal life.

This coming week, we celebrate another iteration of independence, which is our country’s victory over the Brits to gain our independence.

This week, please reflect on your salvation/redemption from the penalty of sin and your freedom to revel in the goodness and power our God almighty.
