A Simple Decision Tree for the Heavy
Light stuff to start off with. First, Go see, "The Woman King", it is a good movie, but not great. Actually, the trailers for the upcoming movies “Devotion” and “Till” appear to have more substance and intrigue. The three movies are all heavy history stories. we saw "The Woman King" at the Coon Rapids AMC. There is an adage of “too much of a good thing”. The theatre has Lazy Boy chairs for seating. Jo and I saw the movie with another couple. At some point in the movie, the couple got so comfortable they fell asleep. I had to go to the restroom and was trapped in my seat because all the seats in my row had the leg rests fully extended. Note to self, next movie, sit in an end seat.
Now the heavy stuff, this week I had to decide if a long tenured employee should be dismissed. The employee works on the frontlines and paid as such at about $25/hour. This employee’s background will make It will difficult for this person rebound to that salary. My decision could impact this person for the rest of their life. Yes, I can easily justify my decision, and yes I will sleep at night with my decision. I do understand the weight of my decision and take my decision very seriously. Those of you who have been in my position can relate.
We all make light and heavy decisions that impact ourselves and others. In my daily devine dialog, I request guidance and relish the answer. I am never alone in the art of decision-making. In the business world there are many decision making approaches. If you search the topic in Google, you will easily receive a ton of hits on the topic; which makes more work for you to choose the right approach. How ironic, more decision making.
Now the simple approach to decision making in three simple steps: Ask for guidance, Listen to counsel, and Trust God.
- “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (James 1:5)
- “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.” (Psalm 32:8)
- “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
And just like any other skillset, the more you do it, the better you become at operating in a practical, but Heavenly guaranteed form of decision making.
