YEAH, I SEE THE RESEMBLANCE


We are still celebrating the Pentecost season.  Last week, the existence of God was covered.  God Himself exists in the form of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; which I will cover briefly in the future.


Today, your existence will be covered.  Not the physical, which you can clearly see because of its tangibility. Instead, let’s cover your spirit. Remember in Sunday school when the kindly Sunday school teacher taught you that the LORD GOD formed a man. HE made man out of the dust of the ground. God breathed the breath of life into him. And the man became a living person. Genesis 2:7


What was that breath?  Breath of God is far more than the physical exchange of air in and out of the lungs. It is one of the most profound symbols in scripture.  HIS breath is HIS spirit. Job 32:8, It is the SPIRIT in man, the breath from God All-Mighty.


The word “spirit” derives from the word “breath,” (spiritus in Latin). Literally, God breathed HIS spirit into us.  God gave us a spirit of our own.  HE shared HIS likeness with us. Genesis 1:27, So God created human beings in HIS own likeness. HE created them to be like HIMSELF. HE created them as male and female.


God has a deep connection with your spirit.  It’s strongly paternal. Romans 8:16, The Holy Spirit Himself speaks to our SPIRITS and makes us sure that we are God’s children.  

                                                                             

Where am I going with this modest theology lesson?  I want you to understand how close and important you are to God.  We have all heard, “The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak” Matthew 26:40-43.


The spirit inside of you is inherently good.  It identifies with its DNA, the Spirit of God; thus it wants to be with Him and be like Him.  Proverbs 20:27, A man’s SPIRIT is the lamp of the Lord. It illuminates the depths of his heart. The LORD’S lamp sheds light on a person’s life, searching the innermost parts.


No matter what you think, there is a part of you that will always long for God.  Psalm 42:2 

My SPIRIT thirsts for God, for the living God; When shall I come and appear before God?


When your spirit connects with God, there is complete satisfaction and contentment. John 6:35, Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.


Tools for your spirit to connect with God

  • Prayer

  • Praise

  • The Word of God, the Bible,  Hebrews 4:12, For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of SPIRIT, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.


Here is your inspirational and meditation scripture for the week.  It’s a little quirky, but I hope it gives you a charge.  


Job 27:3, As long as my breath is in me, and the Spirit of God is in my nostrils,

1 Thessalonians 5:23, 

Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole SPIRIT and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

 Good Son-Day - The Start of  Something New Ice Creameisters! Live Roses The day after Christmas, I got a call from a former co-worker I had connected with for about a year or so. I started the conversation by asking about her grandchild and two daughters. I proceeded to ask her how her husband was doing and got an unexpected quick but poignant answer: "Oh, he's doing fine; we're getting a divorce."  Wait, what! Recently, I sat in on a conversation with some employees outside one of our buildings.  The conversation turned to a Minneapolis suburb called "Blaine".  They talked about the vivid dichotomy between the impoverished trailer parks and the lavish homes in the new developments.  I then cringed when I heard them refer to the people residing in the trailer homes as "White Trailer Trash" and this was uttered by a person of the same color.
