Freedom Focus, Liberty Lived!
Good Son-Day!!!
Sweet Land of Liberty
Freedom Focus, Liberty Lived
On June 17,Jo and I participated in a parade commemorating our new national holiday, Juneteenth, in Minneapolis. We also attended the Brooklyn Park Juneteenth event for a few minutes.
After all of the day’s festivities, I was exhausted upon arriving home. I flipped on the TV and caught a few minutes of “Prince of Egypt”. The story of Moses leading enslaved people to freedom resonates with me. Moses was a free man when he returned to Egypt. But in his eyes there was not true freedom until all of his people were free. You know the rest of the wonderful and exciting story.
Juneteenth is of course a celebration of freedom for all people. With Independence day just around the corner you will see more emphasis on TV and print about our democracy and freedom. We are very protective of our liberty privileges. We will fight to get them and fight to keep them.
After King Solomon’s reign, much of the second half of the Old Testament is about Israel trying to recover their civil rights and freedom. One oppressor after another kept Israel under tyrannical rule. It’s important for us to value and promote freedom for all. This is not a political cause. It’s not a woke thing. It’s not a bleeding heart liberal thing. It is a Biblical requirement.
Here is what the prophet Isaiah who under subjectification of another country said about civil rights. . .
Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows. Isaiah 1:17.
Regarding freedom Isaiah said. . .
I will say to the captives, ‘Come out in freedom,’ and to those in darkness, ‘Come into the light.’ They will be my sheep, grazing in green pastures and on hills that were previously bare. Isaiah 49:9.
In our current times doing the right thing in terms of civil liberties is falling out of favor with half of the country and it is being politicized. We cannot get tired of pursuing efforts that will benefit others. You see, doing good (such as volunteer work) has its own reward. Press forward with it.
Galatians 6:9-10
So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.
Liberty is not lost on Christ. Your immersion in Christ brings true liberty to you on so many levels.
Galatians 5:1 So Christ has truly given us liberty. Now make sure that you stay free, Never again let anyone put a harness of slavery on you.
2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
What is liberty in Christ? It allows us to live and serve the Lord with purpose. How we do so is clearly defined by the scriptures and managed by the Holy Spirit; which is the meaning of 2 Corinthians 3:17 above. Liberty in Christ does not permit a believer to function entirely on their own without divine guidance. Liberty without accountability (in this case without guidance from God) leads to anarchy.
Staying aligned and accountable to God is advisable. Even in our democracy, there are these things called laws. I am not telling you what to do, even God has given us a free will, but take kindly counsel in the next scripture if you are free-spirited.
1 Corinthians 10:23-24 You say, “I have the right to do anything.” But not everything is helpful. Again you say, “I have the right to do anything.” But not everything builds us up. No one should look out for their own interests. Instead, they should look out for the interests of others.
Song of the Week
“God Did It”, 2023, Mervin Mayo
A cross between R&B and Hip Hop. A cool testimonial song and the lyrics are cleverly embedded in the video. Top notch production.
