Simple Accountability


Both Saturday and Sunday, I was blessed to have breakfast with my family.  On Saturday that honor was with Jo, Molly, and Alex. Today, it was with Mom, Jo, Roma and David. Both days, the riches were fellowship.


On Saturday, a part of our many conversations pivoted to personal accountability.  Molly and I have seen many tragic lives destroyed by choices, abuse, greed, evilness, incivility and more.  Some will say it’s society’s fault for faulty lives and others will say the individual made poor decisions in life that led to where they are now.


The topic is quite debatable.  The Bible alludes to both.  


The Apostle John speaks to the core problems of society . . . 15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. (1 John 2:15-17)


The Apostle Paul cuts to the quick in Romans 14:12, So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God


Regardless of who is at fault hope reigns. No matter the circumstances, we serve a mighty God who will prevail in the most dire of situations, history, and oppression.   Paul says this about hope, something we need to keep motivated . . . “13 I pray that God, the source of HOPE, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident HOPE through the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)


Nothing is insurmountable for our Lord, nothing.

 Good Son-Day - The Start of  Something New Ice Creameisters! Live Roses The day after Christmas, I got a call from a former co-worker I had connected with for about a year or so. I started the conversation by asking about her grandchild and two daughters. I proceeded to ask her how her husband was doing and got an unexpected quick but poignant answer: "Oh, he's doing fine; we're getting a divorce."  Wait, what! This couple was married for 30-plus years.  The husband is retired. Nice home in the burbs,  Both children are college grads.  Empty nesters. The American Dream. What happened? Recently, I sat in on a conversation with some employees outside one of our buildings.  The conversation turned to a Minneapolis suburb called "Blaine".  They talked about the vivid dichotomy between the impoverished trailer parks and the lavish homes in the new developments.  I then cringed when I heard them refer to the people residing in the trailer homes as "White Trailer Trash" and this was uttered by a person of the same color.
