Authentic Power

 Good Son-Day!!!

Just a moment’s pause to acknowledge the life of my friend Gary “Bear” Ojala.  A God loving, people loving man who passed recently.

Authentic Power

A little more focus on humility.  At its core, it is about putting others before yourself. It's being open to new ideas, listening to others, yielding to others, acknowledging to others, praising others, apologizing to others, recognizing the value in all the lives God has created. It's also being willing to admit your mistakes and learn from them.

A couple weeks ago, the topic was on relational inhibitors with God.  Humility is the exact opposite. It’s a relational enhancer with God.

Psalm 149:4 For the LORD takes pleasure in His people; HE will glorify the humble with victory in life.

James 4:10 Humble thyself in the sight of the Lord; and He will lift you up.

Humility makes you vulnerable to the response of others.  It is in some respects a type of grace (undeserved, unrequited favor) you are expressing.

A humble life yields its own rewards such as contentment, patience, forgiveness, peace, and compassion.

What does it look like? Try these life changing phrases

  • I will shut up and listen

  • Let’s try your way

  • I’m sorry
  • Thank you
  • I’m wrong and you’re right

  • Great idea

  • I never would of thought that

  • Nice job

  • That’s clever

  • I’m sorry
  • Thank you
  • Your way is better

  • I forgive you

  • Have I told you how wonderful you are

  • I’m sorry

  • I am here when you need me
  • How can I support you
  • I receive your apology

  • Thank you

  • I am blessed to be associated with you

  • You are some kind of marvelous

  • I’m sorry

  • I see you

  • I hear you

  • I am right there with you
  • I will do that for you---you go ahead
  • I’m sincerely sorry (for the umpteenth time)

  • Lord teach me how to do better with others

  • Lord use me to bless others

  • Lord use me to service others

  • Lord clear all obstacles that hinder me in serving others and you

This kind of stuff my friend is a powerful relational enhancer because it is rooted in God’s love and love, unequivocally, never fails.  God is Love and Love is God (always something to be revisited—another time though).

Just one other message to you.  A close cousin of humility is meekness, which is a person who is not driven by his own desires, but a person who is driven by the well being of others. Humility is an attitude towards oneself—a restraining of one's own power so as to allow room for others. Meekness is about action in the treatment of others. Both humility and meekness are considered weak traits by many.  Again, never underestimate the power of both.  Christ said these familiar words about meekness . . .

Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Just a little deeper.  Some consider this an end time verse. It is intended to be interpreted literally.  God is meek, hmmmm.  God’s people are meek, ahhhhhh. Wait for it, wait for it, or better, wait on God.  We will rule the world—YAAASSS . . .with Love of course.  Love in the previous sentence is capitalized on purpose.

Here is the dismount scripture:

Micah 6:8 The LORD has shown you what is good. HE has told you what HE requires of you. You must act with justice. You must love to show mercy. And you must be humble as you live in the sight of your GOD..

Song of the Week

“Planted”, 2023, Ryan Brockington and Ethan Kent

A holy hip hop ballad.  Phenomenal lyrics and a show tune-like feel. Dare you to flow with the lyrics' rhythm.

Lyrics also in video.

Planted Lyrics
Spent lifetimes trying to prove myself to you
Searching for what was already mine this whole time
Something I couldn't earn

It’s priceless for what it’s worth.

Through it all the Truth remains.
Your love will never change

If I got cash in the bank
Or down to my five
Trust it’ll be fine

Your hand never hard to find

Mistakes tried to cripple me

Grace was the strength in me

What could I ever give

To repay for this live I live

Chorus
Joy that the world can’t take away

Peace through the chaos flowing deep

Rest like a tree by the water streams

I’m planted.  Planted

Verse
No longer questioning my identity
Yes, I’m finally secure in who I am
Your a child

Seeing through your eyes

Brought my faith back to life
Through it all the Truth remains
Your love will never change

If I got cash in the bank
Or if I’m down to my last five
Trust it’ll be fine
Your hand is never hard to find

Mistakes tried to cripple me

Grace was the strength in me
What could I ever give

to repay for this life I live

Joy that the world can’t take away

Peace through the chaos flowing deep

Rest like a tree by the water streams

I’m planted.  Planted

No longer questioning my identity
Yes, I’m finally secure in who I am
Your child

Seeing through your eyes

Brought my faith back to life
Through it all the Truth remains
Your love will never change

If I got cash in the bank
Or down to my five
Trust it’ll be fine

Your hand never hard to find

Mistakes tried to cripple me

Grace was the strength in me

What could I ever give

To repay for this live I live

Joy that the world can’t take away

Peace through the chaos flowing deep

Rest like a tree by the water streams

I’m planted.  Planted

Bridge
Forgive like I love you
Love like I know you
Live like I trust you
Put my emotions aside

And let go of pride

Cherish every moment like the last
Rest in this peace that I have

Post-Chorus
What could I ever give

to repay this life I live
Joy that the world can’t take away

Peace through the chaos flowing deep

Rest like a tree by the water streams

I’m planted.  Planted

Joy that the world can’t take away

Peace through the chaos flowing deep

Rest like a tree by the water streams

I’m planted.  Planted
