Imperfections and Loving It

I am a day late due to extensive commitments to the Brooklyn Park kiddos this last week with travels to Ham Lake, Blaine, Andover, and Plymouth to support them.  Plus, this thing we call the “day job” and replacing a water heater.

In the last few years, I have pulled back on my broad social media postings and readings for various reasons.  However, on Instagram I still follow news sources, sports entities, do-it-yourself sites, family/marriage sites, . . . etc.

The Instagram algorithms are continually posting couples posters on my Instagram.  Many of them are posting humorous reels about marriage.  Mostly about fighting with the husband paying a penalty if he wins a fight.

Most posters I delete because it is one thing to have a sense of humor about marriage, but it is another thing to influence in a way that does not edify marriage and family institutions.   The Lord really knows how the challenges these institutions face every day.

Most of the marriage/family postings that poke holes at the institutions focus on a person’s imperfections. Typically one person is perfect and the other person in the relationship is very flawed.

From a scriptural standpoint, we are all encouraged to strive for perfection.  Jesus said in

Matthew 5:48, But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.

What does perfection mean in that passage?  Jesus used the Greek word “Telos”, that is, “fulfillment”.   It means you have attained a righteous relationship with Christ through salvation and that you are living a Christlike life.  Christ wants you to achieve all you can be; to fulfill your destiny to be like Him.  You are the Telos or fulfillment of Him.

Is that goal attainable?  Paul said in

Philippians 4:13  For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

Getting to that perfect stage in life is a process that occurs everyday as Christ gives new guidance every day.  We must be patient with ourselves as well as others in this maturing process.

Philippians 3:12    Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.

Let’s be honest it is often easier to see the imperfections in others than ours. The imperfections in others . . . we must love them.  Meaning we must love our family and friends despite their faults. Notice I did not say ignore them.  Writing people off because of imperfections is unacceptable. Lighten up on judging others.

Romans 2:1-4   You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things. 2 And we know that God, in his justice, will punish anyone who does such things. 3 Since you judge others for doing these things, why do you think you can avoid God’s judgment when you do the same things? 4 Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?

Furthermore on judging others. . .

1 Corinthians 4:5 and 7

So don’t make judgments about anyone ahead of time—before the Lord returns. For He will bring our darkest secrets to light and will reveal our private motives. Then God will give to each one whatever praise is due.

For what gives you the right to make such a judgment? What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though it were not a gift?

Love through the imperfections.

Next week—How to love through the imperfections

Song of the Week- Hallelujah! Sing a New Song to GOD. Sing HIS praise in the assembly of godly people. Psalm 149:1

"Even If", 2023, Anthony Evans.

I like building,  crescendo type songs and Anthony is spectacular at working a song to its summit.  I also like him because he is a PK, (Reverend Tony Evans’ son).  He is one of Jo’s favorite artists.

Even If Lyrics

Even If Lyrics

[Verse 1]

I'm being honest, this is the hardest

The hardest song my heart will sing

My words are broken, my dream is stolen

How do I say what I don't mean?

[Pre-Chorus]

You don't owe me anything

But in my darkness You still speak peace

[Chorus]

So I'll lift my hands, I'll sing again

You're good to me, You're good to me

And as I wait, I'll sing in faith

You're good to me, You're good me

[Post-Chorus]

Until my heart believes, I won't stop singing

You're good to me

So good to me, me

[Verse 2]

(I) I begged and prayed (I prayed)

Day after day (Every day)

That You wouldn't let this be

(I) Stood at thе waters (Waiting on You, but)

They nevеr parted

Lord, were You even listening?

[Pre-Chorus]

You don't owe me anything

But in my darkness You still speak peace

[Chorus]

I'll lift my hands (I'll lift my hands)

I'll sing again (I'll sing again)

You're good to me (You're good to me)

You're good to me (Oh, Lord)

And as I wait (As I stand here)

I'll sing in faith (I will sing how You are good to me)

You're good to me

You're good to me

[Post-Chorus]

Until my heart believes, I won't stop singing

You're good to me (You're good, so good)

So good, ohh

[Bridge]

Even if the doctor tells me there's no medication

To take away the pain I've begged You to

(I'll still praise You)

Oh, even if I have to wait for You to mend the heartbreak

And believe that every tear that falls, You'll use

(I'll still praise You)

Oh, even if You never choose to take away the struggle

Your grace will be enough to pull me through

(I'll still praise You)

And even if the one who caused my hurt is never sorry

And I'll never hear the words I'm longing to

(I'll praise You)

Oh-oh-oh

[Bridge]

Even if it feels like (Even if it feels like)

Everyone has turned against me (I don't even care)

And everything I thought I gained, I lose

(I'll still praise You)

Even if I never see it here this side of Heaven

(If I never see it, no)

And healing doesn't look the way I'd choose

(When it doesn't look the way I'd choose)

(I'll still, I'll still praise You)

[Chorus]

I'll lift my hands (I'll lift)

I'll sing again (Ohh)

You're good to me (You are so good)

You're good to me (You are so good)

And as I wait (As I wait)

I'll sing in faith (I'll sing it again)

You're good to me (I'll sing it again, Jesus)

So good to me ('Cause You are so good)

I'll lift my hands (I'll lift my hands)

I'll sing again (I'll never get tired of singing)

You're good to me (You're good)

You're good to me (Yes, You're good to me)

And as I wait (Ohh, I)

I'll sing in faith (I'll sing in faith)

You're good to me (You are good)

So good to me

[Post-Chorus]

Until my heart believes, I won't stop singing

(Until my heart believes, I won't stop singing)

Until my heart believes, I won't stop singing

(Until my heart believes, I won't stop singing)

I will sing 'til my heart believes, yeah

(Until my heart believes, I won't stop singing)

And even if I never get another reason

You're still good to me

[Outro]

You are so good, oh-oh-oh-oh

Mm-mm, yeah

I've tasted and seen

You're good to me
