For Those in Need, The Doctor Makes House Calls

Good Son-Day!!!

A day late due to football commitments, mentoring commitments, and a hospital visit.

For Those in Need, the Doctor Makes House Calls

Yesterday, I was on the sideline watching our 8th grade squad battle their sister team from Champlin Park.  The teams were for the most part evenly matched. Except for one, parent support in the bleachers; in particular a male parent or guardian figure.

In the last ten years, this trend has increased.  What we are seeing more in practices are players challenging coaches, taking swings at coaches, and shutting down when a coach provides guidance about on the field and off the field behavior.  Our coaches growing weary of doing more and more parenting and less things related to football.

Don’t get me wrong, BP coaches genuinely care about the general well-being of each kid.  I have seen them drop money and time on our kids time after time.  Yet they alone cannot remedy the numerous issues that are home based.

One of our kids, who is talented, but also has mental health problems, school problems, and on probation completely lost it in the game today.  He cussed out an official and took a swing at him.  This 13 year old is disqualified from the game.  I pull him to the side on the sideline.  He tells me the ref touched me and that is why I took a swing at him.  I of course tell him his reasoning is flawed and the reaction is inexcusable.   His response, “Oh just “Trumping” for refs.  I said, “No, there is no place for any situation in life and that is your first solution to any problem in life.  Kid, you have a world of talent, which could possibly pay for your college. Scouts can’t see you when you are on the bench or behind bars due to violence, your choice.”  That got his attention.  Before the comment, no eye, afterwards he looked me in the eye and did the head nod gesture, acknowledging that he heard me.  We parted.

On the sidelines, I connected with one of our coaches who is a member of the “100 Black Men of America”, a non-profit mentoring organization for young men.  This coach is constantly attending org events and posting photos from the gatherings on Instagram.  I thought this kid could use a mentor.  Let’s see what they can do for this kid.  The response was, “Can’t help him. We only mentor kids without issues like him and who have a future”.  I was stunned. In essence, they want to mentor perfect kids. I get it, still I was stunned.  I get you cannot solve all of the societal ills. Resources are limited. Salvage the salvageable.

But do the perfect kids need the mentoring services or do those who are imperfect need them?

All of this brought me back to Luke 5:31-31  Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

I will end by saying man may see flaws and write off you like a tax expense. No hope and nothing but despair.  Christ sees your flaws and sees something much more than salvageable.  Can we do no less?

Song of the Week Hallelujah! Sing a New Song to GOD. Sing HIS praise in the assembly of godly people. Psalm 149:1

A little British gospel.

Heavenly War Lyrics

Heavenly war, heavenly war

Then don’t try me I’m a child of God

Can’t hold me back, man, I’m scared for sorrow

Heavenly war, heavenly war

God protect me from my enemies, I

Know this is real, it’s a spiritual fight

Keep me strong, keep me safe, oh

Armed for anything, He’s got power inmy soul

God protect me from my enemies

[Chorus]

Heavenly war, heavenly war

Then don’t try me I’m a child of God

Can’t hold me back,

Heavenly war, heavenly war

[Verse 1]

How does it feel to stand?

Can’t let it slide,  I must tackle

Cause in your sight, I’m at right  hand

Grains of sand,   like how many plans?

You got me and the wife,   he covered the words

We utter, establish the fam

We take it by force in a war, man

I walk with the  righteous clan

Through the battles, we’re gaining wisdom

With the name, let me pray, then listen

Demons lay when I say it’s written

Wait one sec, let me state this mission

The mission  is clear

Shine in the dark, I ain’t gotta stay sharp

So I walk with the shield and the sword \when I’m here

Perfect Love  I can stop fear

Heavenly war, heavenly war

Then don’t try me I’m a child of God

Can’t hold me back,

Heavenly war, heavenly war

Ooh, ooh

Heavenly war, Heavenly war
