Leaving a Legacy
(Every day is a . . . ) Good Son-Day!!!

Leaving a Legacy
I officiated a memorial service for a neighbor yesterday, when I was working with the neighbor whose mother had passed. I learned that no one wanted to come forward and provide a tribute to this 92 year old woman. From all accounts, she was a wonderful human being. I was puzzled why no family members or friends wanted to come forward in the service.
I asked the son of the deceedent to tell me a little bit about his mother and he recounted multiple fond stories about her. His wife did likewise quite easily. In fact, the wife is spearheading all of the service arrangements and the family gathering. When a daughter-in-law is going all out for mother-in-law that speaks volumes to me about the character of the mother.
I get being shy, but this memorial will be conducted in a Maple Grove assisted living facility chapel. It is quite cozy and probably can seat no more than 50 people at best.
I get speaking in public is stressful. I get this is a painful time. But funerals and weddings (even the private ones) are public for a reason. They are an affirmation of relationships, commitment, and support to all participating in the event; and not just a public spectacle, ceremoney, or pagentry.
These events will edify the celebrants, or the grieving. All well intended contributions have a significance to someone. In the case of a funeral, tributes are gold, an asset, a legacy to be shared and not hoarded. Proverbs 13:22 Good people leave an inheritance to their grandchildren.
I never met the deceedent, but my life is richer for hearing her son regale stories about her. The verse above is about passing on something of value. Passing on money is great, no doubt. Passing on the good of our departed love ones is great too. I listen to my own son talk about his departed grandparents. I will occasionally will hear him say, "I want to be like he/she in this situation". Jo and I continue to either recount old stories or provide new stories with him to carry on the legacy.
Jo and I are continually blessed by our heritage and hope our son will carry on the legacy of our families.
Family legacy just does not happen on its own. You have to be intentional. Sometimes our younger ones do not understand the value of family assets. Start telling them some good stories of what should be carried on to their childrens children and beyond. Celebrate your heritage!
Song of the Week Hallelujah! Sing a New Song to GOD. Sing HIS praise in the assembly of godly people. Psalm 149:1.
"Victory is My Name". 2024, Sinach & Israel Houghton
Med tempo praise song with wonderful vocals and Afro beat groove. A definite Easter song.
Tell you what, after hearing this song, I have a new name and it means I win!
Victory Is My Name
The Lord is my shepherd
I shall not want
The Lord has provided
More than enough
No matter where I go
Oh oh oh
Victory is my name
The Lord is my shepherd
I shall not want
The Lord has provided
More than enough
No matter where I go
Oh oh oh
Victory is my name
My praise is strong
Joy overflowing
More than a song
I'm celebrating
In the midst of my enemies
I praise
In the midst of my enemies
I praise I praise
I put on my dancing shoes
There's no way that I can loose
I'll be the last one standing
I'll be the last one standing
The Lord is tower
A shield for me
With all of the power
I'll ever need
No matter where I go
Oh oh oh
Victory, victory is my name
The Lord is tower
A shield for me
With all of the power
I'll ever need
No matter where I go
Oh oh oh
Victory, victory is my name
My praise is strong
Joy overflowing
More than a song
I'm celebrating
In the midst of my enemies
I praise
In the midst of my enemies
I praise I praise
I put on my dancing shoes
There's no way that I can loose
