It's the Holiday Season!

Misadventures in Nouvell de Cuisine

I am grateful for slow days that allow us to reflect on the finer things in life, such as family, friends, and our creator.  If you have many great relationships with the three, you are a wealthy individual.  Biblically speaking. You must declare (saying something solemnly and emphaticallyyour appreciation to them.

Philippians 1:3
I thank my God in all my remembrance of you,

I am an adventurous eater.  Treating my palate to new recipes and cuisine is one of my small joys in life.  Just last week, I ate Asian Fries for the first time at MalcomYards Food Hall in Minneapolis.

A mistake I occasionally make is thinking others are like me.

For instance,  two weeks ago, I cooked some collard greens with a twist.  I added two exotic herbs, rosemary and basil.

BJ sampled the concoction. All cooks like to see a favorable reaction to their work, so I am earnestly watching for his response.

He puts a heaping spoonful in his mouth. He walks around the kitchen with a restrained look on his face.  In his polite manner, BJ is trying to find the right words to say so as not to offend.

Finally, he says, "Um, who made the greens?"

"Ma faute!"  All cooks know the meaning of this statement.  Yuck!

Rosemary is good for a porterhouse, and Basil is good for chicken parmesan, but for greens, you may as well toss the whole pot down the garbage disposal.

Today, I stuck to the basics.  I kept it simple: chicken broth, smoked ham hocks, collard greens, and mustard greens.

The result----- two helpings and no questions from my progeny.

Outstanding!

Song of the Week - Hallelujah! Sing a New Song to GOD. Sing HIS praise in the assembly of godly people. Psalm 149:1.

As I did above. I am sticking to a classic for Thanksgiving  . . .

"Be Grateful", 1978, Love Alive II album, Walter Hawkins and the Love Center Choir

Lyrics

God has not promised me sunshine

That's not the way it's supposed to be

But a little rain mixed with God's sunshine

A little pain, makes me appreciate the good times

Be grateful, be grateful

God desires to feel your longings

Every pain that you feel, He feels them

Just like you, but He can't afford to make you feel only good

Then you can't appreciate the good times

Be grateful, be grateful, be grateful

Because there's someone else who's worser than you, be grateful

Because there's someone else who'd love to be in your shoes

Be grateful, God said it would never, never forsake you

Be grateful
