A friend of mine just passed.  I just attended her homecoming service, which was done quite well.

The eulogy text focused on salvation and getting assurance in your afterlife, a good standard-fare message for a funeral service.  The minister spoke on the hope of getting to heaven, where the followers of Christ will receive a new body and home.  Nice.

While sitting there, I thought many people need hope in the here-and-now life.  I will put some kindling in the flame of hope by leveraging the season of hope and the anticipation of something glorious on the way, Advent.  Advent's first day is 12-1-24.   For many denominations, it is the day of the church calendar year.  Advent is Latin for 'TO COME TO".

Advent's meaning is about the anticipation and prepping for the coming of Christ in our lives.  Christ performed marvelous works while on earth.  He ushered in the Holy Spirit, who is currently doing greater works in our lives.  Hope is here, and hope is now. And here's today's text scripture:

Romans 15:13 
I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him. Then, you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. 
 
John 10:10
The thief’s purpose is to steal, kill, and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life, or in KJV, I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly.

For a believer, you have an advantage, your more abundant, rich life is accessible to you today and the here-after.  Jesus has come, and He is delivering to you more than you'll ever know.

 Good Son-Day - The Start of  Something New Ice Creameisters! Live Roses The day after Christmas, I got a call from a former co-worker I had connected with for about a year or so. I started the conversation by asking about her grandchild and two daughters. Recently, I sat in on a conversation with some employees outside one of our buildings.  The conversation turned to a Minneapolis suburb called "Blaine".  They talked about the vivid dichotomy between the impoverished trailer parks and the lavish homes in the new developments.  I then cringed when I heard them refer to the people residing in the trailer homes as "White Trailer Trash" and this was uttered by a person of the same color.
