A Booster for Those Exhausted by Life
January can be such a draining month. The snow, Artic winds and the "It feels like" weather indicator. Add the bills from Christmas, and for the kiddos it is back to school. For me it is cabin fever. I like being out and about.
For others the issues one faces may be health, finances, family or friends.
You may be feeling like someone or something is doing the old "pile on (insert name here)".
Life can be exhausting.
A vacation may be a temporary fix. But if you are looking for a long-term solution.
Christ knows your hardships. He said this . . .
Matthew 11:28-29
28 “Come to Me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
A few points in this passage will take you long way in your path to resurgence from weariness.
First, Christ is giving us a command when he said, "Come to Me all you who are weary and burdened". He did not say, you may want to give some consideration to consulting me. His commands come with results, hence the latter part of the verse, "I will give you rest" and not I hope for the best.
The yoke verse needs a little explanation. A yoke is a wooden bar placed over the necks of work animals so that they can pull plows or carts. What Christ saying here is, accept my work or better yet become my servant----like a disciple, which anyone can be.
A disciple of Christ refers to someone who actively learns from Him, follows His teachings, and strives to live their life according to His example; essentially, a Christ emulator.
Lastly, Christ says He is gentle and humble in heart. Christ is kind, compassionate, and humble. He treated people with respect and empathy, especially to those who were marginalized (a person who is treated as insignificant or not relevant). What he is asking you to do is achievable, and empowering.
Obviously, the start to renewal begins this way:
Philippians 4:6Don't worry about anything but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God.
It essentially means that instead of letting worries consume you, turn to prayer to address your concerns and express your needs to God.
The church mother was right when she said, "On the other side of this trial, baby, you'll be alright". Here is the confirmation of her wise words.
1 Peter 5:10And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
Renewal, refreshment, resurgence is within your grasp.
Song of the Week - Hallelujah! Sing a New Song to GOD. Sing HIS praise in the assembly of godly people. Psalm 149:1.
"Addictive Love", 1991, Bebe Winans and CeCe Winans-Love.
Two of the greatest gospel singers. They were a powerful duo in their early years, especially when their albums were produced by Keith Thomas. Incredible lyrics and dynamic vocals, and music. I will highlight the duo the next few weeks. I hope you enjoy them as much I have over the last 34 years.
The video is a bit faded, but the sound is still there. More importantly download the song.
Lyrics
Shoo-be-doo-ba-doo-be (shoo, shoo, shoo-be-doo-ba-doo-be)
Yeah (shoo-be-doo-ba-doo-be)
All I wanna do is just explain
Why that we feel the way we do (ooh)
What a joy to share with you
For me to live is Christ, to die is gain
If anymore I need to say
The list goes on and on all day
I'll cherish that moment for life
And I know it might sound crazy
It's alright, take a seat, hold tight
Time to admit it (time we should admit it)
I'm so addicted, yeah
You see, He's taken my heart and
Showed me the right way
No doubt about it (doubt it, no doubt)
See, I'm lost without it, yeah
You see this love takes me higher
I didn't know why then
I found it was addictive love, yeah (woo, hoo, yeah)
Now that we've evened up the score
Hey, what do you mean there's so much more
I need to tell why we adore
The reason why I smile when I, when I wake up
And also the reason why I dream (reason why I dream)
My love, my joy, my everything
And I'll cherish that moment for life
And I know it might sound crazy (crazy)
It's alright, take a seat, hold tight
Time to admit it, (time we should admit it) I'm so addicted, yeah
You see, He's taken my heart (taken my heart, y'all)
And showed me the right way
There's no doubt about it, no (doubt it, no doubt)
I'm lost without it, yeah
You see this love takes me higher (yeah, yeah)
I didn't know why then
You see, I found it was addictive love (hey, yeah, yeah)
So much love
(He's given to me everything I longed for) every, every, everything I longed for
And everything I need
That means I'm never alone, so glad
And everything I've dreamed and much more
(Everything I need and so much more)
Cherish the moment
And I'll cherish (cherish the moment) that moment for life
For the rest of my life, yeah, yeah
And I know it might sound crazy but (it's not crazy), no
I'm not crazy
I've never known anyone to love me quite the way you do
And I tell you, (it's hopeless, I've finally) noticed that
I'm just forever addicted, forever (forever in love), hey (yeah, yeah, yeah)
You see, He's taken my heart and
Showed me the right way (showed me the way)
There's no doubt about it (doubt it, no doubt, show me the right way)
See, I'm lost without it, yeah
You see this love takes me higher (higher)
I didn't know why then (I didn't know why, I didn't know I was addicted)
You see, He's taken my heart and
Showed me the right way (showed me the way)
There's no doubt about it (doubt it, no doubt)
See, I'm lost without it, yeah
You see this love takes me higher
I didn't know why then
