Dating Jo In The Spring

Pescatarian Paradise

Wednesday was the start of Lent.  The word is Latin for "Spring Season".  It runs from Ash Wednesday (March 5) to Holy Saturday (April 19), which is the day before Easter.  For Catholics and Lutherans, Lent is a period meant for fasting and penance (actions done to show repentance for wrongdoings . . . apologizing, healing transgressions, and fasting).

What you're doing during Lent is emulating Christ's obedience and sacrifice. It serves as a time for Christians to prepare for Easter, focusing on prayer, reflection, and spiritual growth.

A penance tradition during Lent is to limit meat-eating to six days per week. On Fridays, no meat is eaten. Why? Christ sacrificed His life on a Friday. Thus, we should sacrifice meat on a Friday. This includes animals with hooves, aka ungulates (e.g., pigs and cows), and our friends with feathers.

In the 13th century, an Italian friar and priest, Thomas Aquinas, deemed fish as non-meat because most people at the time preferred red meat and chicken.  He wanted Christians to have a protein option.

Christ does not promote fasting as a requirement, but He does value it. The Bible presents fasting as something good, profitable, and beneficial, with instances of believers fasting before making important decisions. While fasting is not commanded, it is seen as a means to deepen one's relationship with God and promote spiritual growth.

What Paul said about fasting and the resulting spiritual growth.

Acts 13:2
While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit spoke. “Set apart Barnabas and Saul for me,” He said. “I have appointed them to do special work.

Acts 14:23
Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church. The elders had trusted in the Lord. Paul and Barnabas prayed and fasted. They placed the elders in the Lord’s care.

Fasting was mandatory for the Jews once a year, on the Day of Atonement. In Matthew 6:16, Jesus said, “When you fast, do not look gloomy like those who only pretend to be holy”.  With the word "WHEN" in this scripture, Christ was implying that we would fast.

The quick understanding of fasting is that it's a very tangible way of crucifying the flesh and showing God that you are seriously humbling yourself before HIM.  Christ Himself fasted for 40 days and nights.

Psalm 69:10
When I wept and humbled my soul with fasting, they insulted me for doing so.

Ezra 8:23
So we fasted and implored our God for all these matters. And HE answered our prayers.

I am in a constant state of abstaining from ungulates and feathers (aka, as pescatarian).  I was a fierce red meat eater.  With a steak, all that was necessary for me to consume was to lightly sear it on both sides and toss it on a plate.  The bloodier it was the better.

My journey to becoming a pescatarian started with a church fast in 1992 and I just continued.  Seafood has been a healthy life choice.  I am only tempted with red meat when Jo is frying up some Black Label bacon on the skillet in the kitchen.  It is the smell of bacon that is heartwarming, but a heart hazard.  Thankfully, there is a soybean bacon alternative.  We cannot keep the alternative in the house because Jo likes it way too much.

If you want to do a fish fast here is a link for fish alternative other than a McDonald's fish filet:

It's Fish Fry Season!  26 to try in the Metro Area

Also, try Culver's Cod or Walleye dinners.

Song of the Week - Hallelujah! Sing a New Song to GOD. Sing HIS praise in the assembly of godly people. Psalm 149:1.

Lyrics
Mm
I wish I could tell you, wish I could describe it
But I can't contain it, can't keep it to myself
There aren't enough colors to paint the whole picture
Not enough words to ever say what I've found
Wonderful and beautiful
And glorious, and holy
He is merciful and powerful
Who we talking about?
That's my King
We declare the glory
Give Him all the honor
Altogether worthy
Who we talkin' about?
That's my King
There's no one before You
Yes, we will adore You
All of this is for You
Who we talkin' about?
That's my King
Jesus, You're my King
Ay-ay
I'm not letting the rocks cry without joining the chorus
There aren't enough notes to make the harmony
It's the song of the angels (angels)
Through all of the ages (ages)
It's all of the earth and heaven's symphony
Wonderful and beautiful
And glorious, and holy
He is merciful and powerful
Who we talkin' about?
That's my King
We declare the glory
Give Him all the honor
Altogether worthy
Who we talkin' about?
That's my King
There's no one before You
Yes, we will adore You
All of this is for You
Who we talkin' about?
That's my King
That's my King
Is He your King tonight?
That's my King, that's my God
That's my Shepherd, my Protector
That's my King, that's my Rock
That's my Anchor, my Defender
That's my King, that's my God
That's my Shepherd, my Protector
That's my King, that's my Rock
That's my Anchor, my Defender
Who we talkin' about?
That's my King
We declare the glory (hey)
Give Him all the honor
Altogether worthy
Who we talkin' about?
That's my King
We declare the glory (yeah)
Give Him all the honor
Altogether worthy
Who we talkin' about?
That's my King
There's no one before You (hey)
Yes, we will adore You (hey)
All of this is for You (who?)
Who we talkin' about?
That's my King
Who we talkin' about?
That's my King
Who we talkin' about?
That's my King
Who we talkin' about?
That's my King
Who we talkin' about?
That's my King
Who we talkin' about?
That's my King (King of kings)
Who we talkin' about?
That's my King (King forever)
Who we talkin' about?
That's my King (God, You reign)
Who we talkin' about?
That's my King
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Come on and give Him praise
He is the King of kings
He is the Lord of lords
He is the everlasting Father
