Freely You Have Received, Freely Give

Many economists are predicting a recession is in the making.  Quick lesson, a recession is defined as two straight quarters of negative value of goods and services produced in the USA (GDP, Gross Domestic Product). Other indicators like employment rates, business investment, and consumer spending also are considered. 

A recession causes hardships for almost everyone, especially those whose income is below the Federal Poverty Level (for an individual, $967/month, and a couple, $1,450/month).

During the holidays, the public has a more heightened sense towards the needs of impoverished people.  For the other 10 months of the year, less so.  There is a serious struggle for food shelves, clothing resources, and shelters to meet the demands of impoverished people.  I have seen this in my visits to the many community resources in the metro area.

If it is happening here, I have no doubt it's happening in Anytown USA.

What is needed? Obviously, money, donations, and contributions.  Just as important is volunteer-----------your time.  It is a valued commodity, as much as the money.

Community help operations such as VEAP in Bloomington, CEAP in Brooklyn Center, Interfaith Outreach in Plymouth need people to serve people.

Jesus seriously wants us to provide to the poor.
 
Luke 3:11
John answered, “Anyone who has two shirts should share with the one who has none, and anyone who has food should do the same.”
 
Matthew 10:8: 
"Freely you have received; freely give."

Reward for awarding:
Proverbs 19:17 
Anyone who is kind to poor people lends to the Lord.  God will reward them for what they have done.

Matthew 19:21
21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell everything you have. Give the money to those who are poor. You will have treasure in heaven. Then come and follow me.”
 
Luke 6:38: 
"Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap."

Hebrews 13:16: "And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased."

I implore you to show an act of kindness and generosity out of the abundance of your heart during the Easter season. Give of yourself as Christ did for us. I guarantee you will not regret the experience of love.

 Good Son-Day - The Start of  Something New Ice Creameisters! Live Roses The day after Christmas, I got a call from a former co-worker I had connected with for about a year or so. I started the conversation by asking about her grandchild and two daughters. I proceeded to ask her how her husband was doing and got an unexpected quick but poignant answer: "Oh, he's doing fine; we're getting a divorce."  Wait, what! This couple was married for 30-plus years.  The husband is retired. Nice home in the burbs,  Both children are college grads.  Empty nesters. The American Dream. What happened? I did not pry.  The only thing she offered was, "One day, I was sitting at the dining room table.  He sat directly across from me.  I looked at him.  I said to myself I can't do this anymore. Take a Son-Day Drive on This Lovely Day Summer Vibes Laughter is Good for the Heart How Our Summer is Going Only The Powerful  The entire world classifies people into hierarchies based job, residence, earnings, assets, weight, athleticism, height, and color to name an obvious few.  If you do not have the right previous descriptors you can be deemed by society as less desirable, unworthy, or a write off. Recently, I sat in on a conversation with some employees outside one of our buildings.  The conversation turned to a Minneapolis suburb called "Blaine".  They talked about the vivid dichotomy between the impoverished trailer parks and the lavish homes in the new developments.  I then cringed when I heard them refer to the people residing in the trailer homes as "White Trailer Trash" and this was uttered by a person of the same color.
