Accentuate the Christ Love

Recently, I was commuting with a friend on a western a twin city county road.    We were discussing a taboo topic, politics. You know how that goes.  Sometimes a good discussion and oftentimes it's not.  We both agreed helping people in this country seems now seems to be frown on by many.

He said the reduction in helping people is being done by Christians (with an emphasis on the last word in the sentence).  Yikes!

Some people get breaks and many don't.  The tone now by society is to grab your bootstraps and start hoisting, otherwise, "tough luck".

Now, I am not a bleeding-heart liberal.  I firmly believe in

2 Thessalonians 3:10
We gave you a rule. We said, “Anyone who won’t work shouldn’t be allowed to eat.”

Proverbs 14:23
All hard work pays off.  But if all you do is talk, you will be poor.

Proverbs 10:4
A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.

For all the hard-working people who think they are not honor bound to assist those who poor or marginalized, I also believe . . .

Acts 20:35
In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He Himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive".

My friend's comments made me pause.  How do I defend and define my divine love with those who twisting scriptures for their own political gain.

I have heard from others comments like this . . .

"There is no hate like Christian love" or "Christians are the cruelest when you need them the most".

These comments are stated to emphasize perceived hypocrisy or insensitivity within some alleged "Christian" circles. The phrases suggests actions or words disguised as love or hard love can be more harmful than open hate.  Those claiming to be acting according to the word or law are increasingly becoming more judgmental, divisive or condemnatory (for instance, the KKK claimed to be doing God's work or the Supreme Court upholding slave rights)

During this Lenten season, I encourage us to grab a hold of Christ's core principle: Love thy neighbor.

In better context

Matthew 22:36-40
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38 This is the first and great commandment.

39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

In application Christ is directing us to . . .

  • Show compassion and empathy
  • Show extraordinary love to everyone despite who or what they are, and regardless of their circumstances.

Please do not get caught in hate promoting politics or ideologies that lead horrible outcomes to innocent people. DO get raptured in genuine Christlike love.

Now go love somebody!

Lyrics

I stand amazed, that I stay on your mind

Your life (ah-ah), you gave for me

I′m always on your mind

chorus

You love me, you love me that much

So much that I just can't get enough

Chasing me down when the going got rough

With your love, your love

You love me, you love me that much

So much that I just can′t get enough

Chasing me down when the going got rough

With your love

verse

I know you got plans for me

All through our history

You made it plain to see

You're making ways for me

I know you got plans for me

All through our history

You made it plain to see

You're making ways for me, yeah

I can′t believe (I can′t believe)

That you keep me on your heart

And you've shown, that I can depend on and trust in your every word

You keep me on your heart

chorus

′Cause you love me, you love me that much

So much that I just can't get enough

Chasing me down when the going got rough

With your love, your love

′Cause you love me, you love me that much

So much that I just can't get enough

Chasing me down when the going got rough

With your love

verse

I know you got plans for me

All through our history

You made it plain to see

You′re making ways for me

I know you got plans for me

All through our history

You made it plain to see

You're making ways for me

(You're making) ways for me

(You′re making) ways for me

(You′re making) ways for me

(You're making) ways for me
