Remember Your Training
Jo asked me to write this story. Earlier today, we decided to eat at the Blaine Perkins, which is near BJ's house. We typically will go to the Maple Grove or Brooklyn Park Perkins. We were thinking he may want to join us.
While we were waiting to be seated, an elderly gentleman walked through the front door and waited along side of us. Within two minutes, of him standing next to us, he falls to the floor. He is still conscious, but he is dazed. He does not respond to our questions about his well-being. Me and two other gentlemen check to see if he had any visible injuries. After seeing that his limbs are intact, we help him to his feet to get him into the chair and out of the restaurant entry way.
As we are doing this, I could see the man was still disoriented. I turned to the Perkins employee who is assisting in this effort and say, quite firmly and loudly, "dial 911". I do this to ensure one person is clearly committed to making the call. He looks at me and replies, "He seems okay".
I reply, "He is still dazed, we do not want to take a risk".
The employee, a teenager, roughly 16-18 years old, looks at me with a wow kind look. He calls 911 using the speakerphone, so we all could hear. The EMT assistant walked us through their emergency protocol. At this point, the mini-emergency is starting to calm. The elderly man is stabilized and answering our questions. Nonetheless, the paramedics are en route. The teenager sits with the man and engages him with some small talk.
Jo and I are ushered to our table, which is a few feet from the entry door and the where the elderly man and teenager are sitting. The paramedics arrive. We see them examining the elderly gentleman. We watch them strapped the man to a gurney and whisk him into an ambulance. Collectively, our thoughts are basking in a sigh of relief.
Now, back to the other emergency, our hunger pangs. The Blaine Perkins is no different than the others we frequent. Not uncommon to wait an annoying amount of time for your ordered meal to be delivered to your table. This is not entirely bad. I love the company and the conversations are rich. While we were waiting, the teenager comes up to me. He says, "Thank you, for doing what you did. In my health class, what you did is exactly what they said you should do".
I responded, "Remember your training when it comes to saving lives. You never know what he has been through. We might have saved his life".
The teenager, now all bright-eyed, responds, "Yeah, the old man told me he had a heart attack recently". The teenager then extends has hand and we shake hands.
I said, "Nice going, you might have saved a life today". The teenager gives me the biggest smile and walks away.
The Word I post each week is for this purpose is to guide you towards a deeper understanding of yourself, your relationship with God, and His plan for you. The scriptures serves as a source of wisdom, moral guidance, and spiritual insight, offering hope and direction in your life journey.
Below are two passages that speak to the authenticity, purpose, and why we remember The Word given to us.
2 Timothy 3:16-1716 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.Psalm 119:11I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
I close by saying try to remember some of the scriptures posted here. It may save your natural or spiritual life or someone else's.
Song of the Week -
Hallelujah! Sing a New Song to GOD. Sing HIS praise in the assembly of godly people. Psalm 149:1.
"Firm Foundation" (He Won't), February 2025, Maverick City.
Today, I needed some epic worship and found it in this song. The strings, voices, and lyrics are aligned.
LYRICS
Christ is my firm foundation
The rock on which I stand
When everything around me is shaken
I've never been more glad
That I put my faith in Jesus
'Cause He's never let me down
He's faithful through generations
So why would He fail now?
He won't
No, He won't, no, He won't
No, He won't
He won't, He won't, He won't, He won't
I've still got joy in chaos
I've got peace that makes no sense
I won't be going under
I'm not held by my own strength
'Cause I've built my life on Jesus
He's never let me down
He's faithful through every season
So why would He fail now? (Shout it out)
He won't
He won't
He won't fail
He won't fail
He won't
He won't (no, no, no, no, He won't fail)
He won't fail
He won't fail
Christ is my firm foundation (let's go) (testify)
The rock on which I stand
When everything around me is shaken (I've never been more)
I've never been more glad
That I put my faith in Jesus (yeah)
'Cause He's never let me down (He's faithful)
He's faithful through generations (so why)
So why would He fail now? (I need you to shout it out) (come on)
He won't
Sing it out, sing
He won't
No, He won't, no, He won't
He won't fail
He won't fail (He won't)
He won't (yeah)
He won't (I've never seen Him fail, no)
He won't fail
He won't fail
I have a testimony
I have a story to sing
This is my story, this is my song
I have a testimony
Can I sing my testimony?
Rain came, wind blew
But my house was built on You
I'm safe with You
I'm gonna make it through (I feel somebody's faith rising)
Rain came, wind blew
But my house was built on You (this is the reason you made it, 'cause)
I'm safe with You
I'm gonna make it through (one more time, oh, rain came)
Rain came, wind blew
My house was built on You (this is the reason I'm standing)
I'm safe with You
I'm gonna make it through (I'm gonna make it)
Yeah, I'm gonna make it through ('cause I'm standing)
'Cause I'm standing strong on You (I'm gonna make it)
Yeah, I'm gonna make it through (my house is built on)
'Cause my house is built on You (one more time, y'all, sing)
Christ is my firm foundation (yeah)
The rock on which I stand
When everything around me is shaken (oh)
I've never been more glad (sing it out)
That I put my faith in Jesus (He's never let me down)
'Cause He's never let me down (He's faithful)
He's faithful through generations
So why would He fail now?
He won't
He won't
He won't fail
He won't fail
He won't
He won't
He won't fail
He won't fail
Never seen the righteous forsaken
And He won't start now
Never seen the righteous forsaken
And He won't start now
Rain came, wind blew
My house was built on You (this is how I made it)
I'm safe with You
I'm gonna make it through (I'll make it)
Rain came, wind blew (they tried to knock me out, they tried to shake me up)
My house was built on You (but my house was built on You)
I'm safe with You
I'm gonna make it through (I'm gonna make it)
I'm gonna make it through (I'm standing strong on you)
'Cause I'm standing strong on you (I'm gonna make it through)
I'm gonna make it through ('cause my house is built on You)
'Cause my house is built on You (yes, you're gonna make it)
I'm gonna make it through ('cause I'm standing strong)
'Cause I'm standing strong on You (I'm gonna make it)
I'm gonna make it through
'Cause my house is built on You
Y'all give it up for the legendary Cody Carnes
