Over the past few years, I’ve found myself growing increasingly cautious about how I use social media. Like many others, I once embraced these platforms as tools for connection, creativity, and community. But as time has gone on, I’ve become more aware and more wary of the hidden costs that come with being constantly connected.

One of the more unsettling trends I’ve noticed is the appearance of unauthorized followers on my social media accounts. While this might seem minor, it raises serious questions about who really is in control of my account.  The why is obvious --- $$$$$$.   

One of the most insidious aspects of modern social media is the way algorithms—and increasingly, bots dictate what we see. These systems aren’t designed to inform or uplift; they’re built to engage. And often, that means promoting content that is divisive, sensational, or emotionally charged.

In many cases, these platforms inject unauthorized or unsolicited content into our feeds, subtly manipulating our perception of reality. Yes, some of this content may align with your interests, but it’s important to reflect on how it’s affecting your thoughts and emotions.

If you find yourself feeling more anger, frustration, or despair than usual, it may be time to reassess your social media habits. The content you consume can shape your mindset, sometimes without you even realizing it.

The above verses encourage vigilance over what we allow into our inner lives. 

How is this accomplish?

Immerse your mind in something other than CNN, Instagram, FOX News, Facebook, MSNBC, etc.  Instead, do this . . .

Philippians 4:8 

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things.

This scripture offers powerful guidance for caring for both the mind and spirit. If your social media feed is filled with negativity, outrage, or manipulation, it may be time to step back and realign your focus with what truly uplifts and inspires, the Word of God.
