Appreciating the Sound Mind More Than Ever
Lately, with more than 3,000 agents in the area, I’ve noticed myself driving a little differently. I’m more aware of the cars beside me and behind me, watching to see whether their movements feel natural or intentional.
About ten days ago, I was test‑driving a car with a sales agent, BJ, and a friend. The sun had already set, and we were cruising down the freeway when suddenly the inside of the car lit up in blue and red. We were being pulled over.
We all reached for our IDs. BJ eased the car to the shoulder, and as the officer approached, we realized he was with the state patrol. Whew — what a relief! It turned out the dealership had forgotten to put plates on the car. The officer gave the sales agent an earful, but thankfully, we drove away without a citation. The next day, I made sure to speak with the dealership’s management about their negligence.
Even so, the ordeal resonated with me. We’ve all seen situations with federal law enforcement escalate far too quickly, and I couldn’t help but feel grateful that this wasn’t one of those encounters.
I’ve told my son and my wife the same thing: If you ever come into contact with a federal agent, stay calm. Don’t do anything to agitate them. I want you alive and well. Your hedge of protection, your peace, and your poise will carry you through.
Job 1:10
Have you not put a hedge of protection around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land.
Living under this kind of pressure can wear on you. It can make you want to stay home, avoid the world, shrink back.
But that’s not who I am. And that’s not who we’re called to be. It’s time to stand on the Word.
2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but gives us power, love, and sound mind (self‑discipline).
Jo and I move through our days with a mix of divine protection and good old‑fashioned common sense — self‑discipline guided by wisdom.
In life’s most challenging moments, when fear tries to creep in, I’m reminded of something that echoes across history and through countless testimonies: God protects His people. When we open our hearts to that truth, we find a peace and strength that truly surpasses understanding.
Hallelujah! Sing a New Song to GOD. Sing HIS praise in the assembly of godly people. Psalm 149:1.
