I do believe; help my unbelief!
Happy Son-Day!!!
Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
I Do Believe; Help My Unbelief!
Has your faith ever wobbled?
Let’s be honest. Even the most devout believers get shaken. A betrayal blindsides you. Someone humiliates you in front of people you respect. The doctor says words you weren’t ready to hear. The money disappears. Someone you love dies. Or an addiction just won’t let go. Most of the time, these are things you have no control over, and that’s what makes them so hard.
So what do you do when you find yourself questioning God? Here’s the thing: it’s a normal, honest response. There, I said it.
And you’re in good company. Abraham, Moses, Gideon, Job, Jacob, Jeremiah, David, Elijah, Mary, the disciples, and Thomas all wrestled with doubt. Job demanded answers. David asked God how long He was going to forget him. Thomas said he wouldn’t believe until he saw for himself. God didn’t toss any of them aside.
But now there’s a hairline crack in the foundation of your faith. What’s next?
You’ve got options. Maybe you feel disappointed and abandoned, so you dig in and push through. Maybe you talk to a counselor or ask people to pray with you. Maybe you find a quiet place to think. And maybe you’re tempted to take a break from your faith altogether. I’d gently urge you to skip that last one. Walking away rarely brings the relief people hope for. More often, it opens the door to despair, unforgiveness, anger, and bitterness.
Try this instead: tell God what you’re really feeling. All of it. Don’t clean it up or hold back. He can handle it, and it’s a safe place for Him to work. When you’re honest, you’re also more able to hear Him. God isn’t vindictive, and with even a little humility about what’s happened to your faith, He can go to work.
Let’s look at someone who did exactly that. In Mark chapter 9, the disciples have just failed to cast a demon out of a boy, and the boy’s father is desperate. Here’s his conversation with Jesus (Mark 9:21-24):
21 Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?”
“From childhood,” he answered. 22 “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”
23 “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”
24 Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”
Notice what he does. He doesn’t hide his doubt or dress it up. In one breath he says, I believe, and then, help me, because I don’t. And Jesus isn’t put off by that. He does what He does best: He shows grace. The boy is delivered.
So if pain, grief, or sickness has you hanging on by a thread, grab the lifeline of honest prayer. Nothing else will fix what you’re facing, and trying to go it alone will only drag it out. Reaching out costs you nothing, and you have everything to gain.
Not sure how to start? Borrow the father’s words:
Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.
Hallelujah! Sing a New Song to GOD. Sing HIS praise in the assembly of godly people. Psalm 149:1.
"You Are", 2026, Marquise Gold & Fresh Start Worship.
Grab your good headphones. You’ll want them for this one.
The bass line is smooth as silk and hits like a heartbeat in your chest, and it carries the whole song. Over it, the vocalist stays controlled but never cold. Every note is held with restraint and sung with soul.
