Hedge of Protection
GOOD SON-DAY!!!!
“TILL”
Hedge of Protection -----
Quick context for title. It is a term derived from Job 1:10 “Have you not put a hedge of protection around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.
For the last two years, I have seen a rise in parents and kids with short tempers and using violence as a means a coping mechanism. Last week, I was at Brooklyn Park (BP) Central Park observing an eighth grade between BP and Minneapolis Phelps Neighborhood (southside Minneapolis) from the observation tower. The game was non-descript and quietly played. The tranquility changed at a heartbeat. Within seconds after the game ended, two players (one player from each team) were involved in a scuffle. The Minneapolis player was dragging the BP around the field by his helmet.
The referees immediately tried to stop the scuffle, but both sidelines, including the parents, breached the field. There was a mass of humanity on the field. Situations like this do not turn out well. I saw something like this happen in Dallas and there was a shooting fatality.
This all took place in a matter of 10 seconds. I called the police and then climbed down the tower to find a way to bring to peace to all concerned. I appealed to the coaches to pull both the players and parents off the field. Players were pushing players. Coaches were pushing players and parents. Parents were pushing parents, coaches, and players.
Recently, I have seen violence issues close down Eden Prairie, an Richfield. Park Center’s homecoming was marred by two students fighting, which resulted in all the spectators in home bleacher section being cleared out before half time and they could not return.
Violence has become an all too common response for many disagreements. This has made me adjust how I approach people in many situations because you never can tell what their response might be. If they resort to violence, I am seeing a lost of control and in some cases a firearm comes into play. My goodness, last week a man from Circle Pines accidentally shoots himself at the Corn Maze. Why is he packing at a place loaded with parents and kids? There were kids standing right around him when his weapon discharged.
An incident too close for comfort happened last Friday afternoon at the intersection of Hiawatha and Lake Street where I occasionally work. I left that location at 2:30 PM and at 3 PM there was a shooting that left three injured (https://www.startribune.com/south-high-student-among-3-injured-in-minneapolis-drive-by-shooting/600220039/) .
The point of my ramble is, don’t run scared out there, but do exercise Godly wisdom when you are out and about. The old phrase, “I pray the Hands of protection be around you in your journey” has more meaning now than ever. Now I am going to overwhelm you with protection passages to build you faith and dependence on Him to what he promised He will do . . . protect you! Please find at least one scripture that resonates with you and meditate on it. Trust in it.
