In Tune During Advent

 Good Son Day!!!

Almost An Hallmark - A Red Wing Christmas

In Tune During Advent

As Jo and I were doing the final preparations for our Thanksgiving dinner, I decided to pop on some Watercolors music from Sirius XM to set the right dinner mood.  I found myself sifting through the various songs and focusing on instruments I have play.  As a musician, you are constantly listening for new riffs and technique you can pull in to your repertoire. She grew tired of me talking about how jazz musicians have a tendency to use octave arpeggios in their riffs.

As you focus, you will only hear the instrument of note.  Then, you will listen to see how that instrument blends in with the other instruments to bring about a beautiful musical art.  For singers, like a few of my sisters on both sides of our families, including my wife, you appreciate real singers who have honed their vocal chords into fined instruments to sing melodies and harmonies.  You appreciate the discipline of both working together to bring about musical masterpiece.  Walter Hawkins, in my opinion, was an anointed songwriter who wrote songs with intricate and beautiful melodies and harmonies.  His work stands the test of time and age extremely well.

The Advent season starts today.  It is about the coming of the Lord.  Over 2,000 years ago both shepherds and kings were advise to watch for signs of the Lord’s coming.  They were in tune with the prophecies and some were on hand to rejoice at His arrival.

Today, the ask is to sift through life’s smokescreens and obstacles in order focus on the God’s beauty and direction for your life.

Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.

Relish what He has to say.  Bless Him.  Put it in your lifestyle repertoire, and then see how it edifies (lifts) others.  You will become an every day philanthropist (a person who does things to better the lives of others).  Remember, this is one of the core missions of a Christian.  That’s what He did.

1 Thessalonians 5:10-11 Christ died for us, that whether we are awake or sleep, we should live together with Him. Therefore comfort each other and EDIFY one another, just as you also are doing.

This passage from Philippians 2:6-8 provides vivid instructions on how to be in tune with God and be a philanthropist.  You do not need to be financially rich to be a philanthropist, just be a humble yielded vessel of your maker.

Philippians 2:6-8

Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself. He had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at all. When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! Having become human, he stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process. He didn’t claim special privileges. Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death—and the worst kind of death at that—a crucifixion.
