Go Ahead and Pamper Yourself------The importance of Self-care
Good Son-Day!!!
The Court-side Life
Go Ahead and Pamper Yourself
Quite often from the pulpit you hear about sacrifices, unselfishness, unrequited love, and relentless service to others. Things I wholly support and things you practice one way or another every day. I can genuinely say I have never heard a preacher promote self-care. The closest thing I have heard about is about things in life you must refrain from or do in moderation.
The self-care I am referring to focuses on and dare I say doing things you like. Indulging in food, activities, and travel that energize you. Here is guilt free permission to pamper yourself. Pampering yourself is not selfish or indulgent. It's an essential part of self-care that can have a positive impact on your mental health and overall well-being. Taking the time to pamper yourself can reduce stress, improve self-esteem, enhance your mood, promote better sleep, and provide time for self-reflection.
Loving yourself is inferred multiple times in the Old and New Testaments.
Matthew 22:39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
James 2:8 If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right.
The principle to pick up here is you really can’t love others if you don’t take care of yourself. And, if all you do is focus on yourself, you can’t love others. We must do both at the same time.
God loves what he created. Namely, YOU!
Psalms 139:14 "You are the one who created my innermost parts;
you knit me together while I was still in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
1 Peter 3:4 Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
Be a good steward of the body and mind Pampering means adhering to a healthy regimen that includes a good diet, regular exercise, and taking some time to relax each day. All of this can have measurable effects on your health and relieve stress
Christ had a healthy regimen He practiced everyday.
Mark 1:35 Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.
Sometimes you need a change of pace to restore, reinvigorate, and recharge. Did know Jesus went on a cruise 😉
Mark 6:30-32 The apostles gathered around Jesus and reported to him all they had done and taught. Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” So they went away by themselves in a boat to a solitary place.
God wants you to live life to its fullest.
Philippians 2:13 "God is the one who enables you both to want and to actually live out his good purposes."
Pampering yourself does not always need to be extravagant. For me, sitting in a hot tub at the gym does wonders for me physically and mentally. Another self-care pleasure for me is getting a printed copy of the newspaper every day and reading the sports page before the bad news in the A section.
Although, I am losing the paper privileges to Jo who thoroughly enjoys the newspaper with a hot cup of java.
Please take care—---it is the Christian way.
3 John 2 Beloved, I pray that in every way you may succeed and prosper and be in good health [physically], just as [I know] your soul prospers [spiritually].
Song of the Week- Hallelujah! Sing a New Song to GOD. Sing HIS praise in the assembly of godly people. Psalm 149:1
"Jesus On the Mainline", 2023, Lisa Knowles-Smith and The Brown Singers
No lyrics today, you won't need them. Best rendition of the song I have heard. The Brown Sisters are tight with their harmony.
