Sweeter Than the Honey in the Honeycomb

Sweeter Than the Honey in the Honeycomb
Today’s message is a tribute to Mother Helen Parker. She was one saint I knew from the minute I met her, I knew without a doubt, she was Heaven-bound.
Mother Parker had a profound impact on anyone she encountered. She had a well-lived life because she read the Word of God, lived the Word, spoke the Word over herself and others. Per Psalms 19:9, Mother Parker’s words were “More precious than gold, than pure gold; they were sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb”.
Everything about Mother Parker was sweet. She was a model consistency in how she treated everyone. Not one evil bone in her body. She was a champion loving God, your husband, your kids, and loving your friends. It was an unrelenting love. A love that expected nothing in return. By definition, this is a Christ-like love.
Mother Parker’s impact with anyone she connected with was transformative. Through osmosis, her ambience would make you a better person. You wanted to be like her. Paul said, follow my example, follow me as I follow Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1). I don’t know if Mother Parker said this, but you could not go wrong treating people like she did.
Instilled in all of us is Mother Parker’s commitment to loving God first, then family, church, and work. This is something she would be thrilled for us to carry forward. This is the legacy she gifted to us. The scriptures states she is a good person, Proverbs 13:22, A good person leaves a legacy for their children’s children. In addition to us following the exemplary lifestyle Mother Parker modeled for us, please ground your children in the Word.
Psalm 78:5-7 Jacob commanded our ancestors to teach their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds, but would keep his commands.
The Bible says to give honor to whom is due (Romans 13:7). Mother Parker deserves double honor and here it is with some poetic license, Psalm 31:31 Honor Mother Parker for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city center.
My last few words are something spoken to Mother Helen Parker a few weeks ago during her Homecoming, “Well done my good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:23)
Song of the Week. Hallelujah! Sing a New Song to GOD. Sing HIS praise in the assembly of godly people. Psalm 149:1
“I Remember Mama”, 1989, Shirley Caesar
One of Mom’s favorite songs.
Lyrics - I Remember Mama
I remember Mama
And the love that she gave
Kneeling by her bed side
I can still hear Mama say
"The people are depending on you, Shirley
Don't you let them down"
I remember Mama in a happy way
We went to school with holes in our shoes
We didn't have much but the Lord saw us through
Mama kept the family together
I remember Mama in a happy way
She packed our lunch in an old greasy bag
It might've seemed empty
But it was more than others had
It had a lot of love way down deep inside and
I remember Mama in a happy way
I remember Mama in a happy way
Now Mama is sleeping in the bosom of Jesus Christ
Somehow I know she's smiling, she's smiling on us right now
One day I'll see her again, how happy I will be
I remember Mama in a happy way
I remember Mama in a happy way
My brothers and sisters, they're living far apart
Although my Mama's gone, she's right here in our hearts
We're all gonna pull together and stay in the holy place
I remember Mama in a happy way
I remember Mama in a happy way
Hallelujah
And I remember Mama in a happy way
I remember Mama (I remember Mama in a happy way)
I remember Mama (I remember Mama in a happy way)
I remember my Mama (I remember Mama in a happy way)
