It's The Holy-Day Season - Adoration

Good Son-Day

It's the Holy-Day Season

For some of us, several events have started, passed, or are upcoming as we approach Easter.  As a reminder, here are a few of those events:

  • Ash Wednesday 2/14.  It marks the start of the Lent season.  The ashes are symbolic of our mortality and the for repentance-----you know from "ashes to ashes and dust to dust"
  • Lent (a 40-day season, 2/14 through 3/28, of renewing your commitment to God through various means including abstaining, fasting, praying, and praising) , theme - "Through the desert, God leads to freedom".
  • Holy Week
    • Palm Sunday - palm leaves were used to pave the way for Jesus' entry into Jerusalem.  Palm leaves signify goodness and triumph
    • Holy Monday Jesus curses a fig tree, turns over tables in the Temple, and heals the blind and the lame.
    • Holy Tuesday the Pharisees, Sadducees, and other religious leaders attempt to entrap Jesus by challenging his beliefs while he teaches at the Temple.
    • Spy Wednesday - Mary of Bethany anoints the Lord with precious oil; Judas' betrayal transaction for 30 pieces of silver (420 grams, roughly 1 pound--worth a meager $310 today
    • Maundy (commandment) Thursday - Last Supper, Jesus is arrested; and most importantly His greatest commandment is given, "Love one another as I have loved you" John 13:35
    • Good Friday - Jesus tried and crucified
    • Holy Saturday
    • Easter - Jesus' resurrection
More context about Lent.  Some denominations see this as a time of penitence (showing sorrow and regret), which is why believers abstain from things that bring them joy such as red meat.  Hence, the reason why fish is a popular substitute for a t-bone steak or juicy hamburger.

My thought is that Jesus' first birth was celebrated with great exaltation and joy.  Baby Jesus was celebrated at that time for who He was and His majesty.  He brought hope and happiness into the world without Him personally performing a miracle other than the immaculate birth. There was no sorrow or regret, just rejoicing.

Why would we celebrate the second birth any differently?  He still brings joy, peace, goodwill, and now salvation from the sting of death.  Honor and adore Him for who He is.
1 Chronicles 29:11
Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O LORD, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things.

The Christmas season changes the behavior of many people to reflect hope, joy, and peace.  People come together and there is much merriment. Radio stations change their entire playlists and we sing along with familiar yuletide songs.  Fun times.

This is how we should celebrate the Lent season and Easter.

Let's finish by saying adoring the Lord is fun.  Find or read material that reinforce how you feel about Him.  Reflect on His goodness.  Sing familiar songs that spark His triumph, which also is your triumph in life.

James 1:17
Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens

Song of the Week  Hallelujah! Sing a New Song to GOD. Sing HIS praise in the assembly of godly people. Psalm 149:1.

Another song fitting for the message.

"Adore", 2000, Jaci Velasquez

A quick story.  I typically will try to find new songs to post because there is a tremendous number of artists out there who are bring the works of art to us to keep us fresh in our praise journey.  I thought about post this song and then thought, nah, I need to keep to the script.

When I arrived at church this morning, I looked at my phone and right on the opening screen was the above song, "Adore" all queued up to play. I did absolutely nothing to get that song to appear on my phone. I of course played it (multiple times) and was quickly reminded of how powerful this song was 24 years ago and it has aged remarkably well.   The production is well done and solo is superb. I totally love the song's crescendo.  Download it. Enjoy.

Lyrics - Adore

From the moment You opened my eyesI have seen the world in a different lightFrom the dawn to the setting sunI am overwhelmedBy all that You have done
Adore, adore, adoreJesus I adore you,Yes I adore,Adore, adore, adoreJesus, I adore YouAnd I lay my life before You, O Lord
There's a union of two becoming oneDeep inside my heartI know that I belongYou have given everything to meThe least that I can doIs give it back to you
And all I am and ever will beIs for You, LordAnd everything within me cries
Adore, adore, adoreJesus, I adore you,Yes I adore youAnd I lay my life before YouAdore, adore, adore, adore, adoreJesus, I adore you
And I lay my life before YouI long to love and adore YouI lay my life before you, O LordI adore you
