Why Thanks?

Why Thanks?
It is that time of the year when Jo and I are looking at menu options for Thanksgiving. In past years, we would do the traditional shopping, which included over-shopping and spending way too much for the four-day weekend.
The food was all good, but making room in the fridge was a pain and dealing with the leftover turkey was a problem. I do not eat anything with hooves or feathers and we learned that Jo and BJ are not big time turkey eaters as well.
Our strategy has changed, we now order our dinner. The first time was a couple of years ago. We ordered a ham dinner package from Cubs for roughly $100. It was a good deal and the food was tasty. Last year, we ordered from Hy-Vee and the results were the same. Although, we will not go there again. Their service was rude.
This year, we will look at other options, including Angelea's Soul Food restaurant. Additionally, I will smoke a prime rib roast. Jo and BJ love prime rib.
Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday because it makes us take pause from everything, and focus on family, friends, and our creator. This holiday is not uniquely American. Civilizations for eons have been doing some form of thanksgiving celebration usually around harvest time.
Guess there always has been a compelling sense to be thankful. Embrace it!
The other day, Jo and I were commenting about the "You don't own me" scene from the movie, "Guess Who Is Coming to Dinner". In the scene, Sidney Poitier was lambasting his parents because they asked him to be grateful for what they did for him. He torched them by saying it was their responsibility to take care of their children and he owes them nothing in the way of being grateful. He follows by saying he will do the same for his kids
I don't even need to reference a scripture because instinctively you know these statements are absurdly and obviously wrong to say to our creator. But I willstill provide a scripture about the necessity of giving thanks to God and family and friends.
Here is a directive scripture (Because God clearly said so):
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
This Thanksgiving season find seven opportunities to give unsolicited thanks to someone and make their day.Trust me they will pass on the love đź’• to someone else.

Sometimes you need an easy tune to follow, where your spirit can follow the soul of the song. No lyrics today, just follow Bebe's and Debbie's lead and roll with them.
