Finding That Choral Feeling
Last Sunday after service, Jo and I went to Sarna's in Columbia Heights for breakfast with my sister and brother-in-law. As always, it was great fellowship.  One of the topics discussed was worship, specifically, choirs.

There was some agreement at the table that recorded choir music is not as dynamic as attending a live choir event. A few exceptions of recorded choir that hit mark were noted.  To name a few a few, and copy this for reference, so you can download the albums are:
  • "Love Alive II" by Walter Hawkins and the Love Center Choir 1978,
  • "Introducing Perfected Praise" by Marvin Winans and The Perfected Praise Choir,
  • "Kirk Franklin & The Family" by Kirk Franklin & The Family 1992,
  • Live in Atlanta at Morehouse College by Hezekiah Xzavier Walker Jr. and the Crusade Choir & Love Fellowship 1994
Yes, there more albums and the list above may be debatable. My list notable to me because there is nary one track on any of the albums that I skip, production is great, lyrics are moving, and you can clearly hear voices.  You can hear their words and harmony.  It is as close as you will get to being there.

I love losing myself in a Gospel tune.  Choir songs allow you to participate in any one of the sections, soprano, contralto, alto, tenor, baritone and bass.  You won't be judged.  For some of us these tunes were played by our mothers on Saturday morning when she was cleaning the house or when your dad was up early on Sunday morning playing the Five Blind Boys of Alabama.

Losing yourself in worship is a humbling experience.  One that is necessary to be lifted up.

James 4:10. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.

Okay.  I love good choir music. Singing choir music is how in a college choir is how I met Jo.  Someone drop another choir album on me that we all should add to our library.  Text me and I will list the results next week.

Nehemiah 12:46
The custom of having choir directors to lead the choirs in hymns of praise and thanksgiving to God began long ago in the days of David.

Song of the Week -
Hallelujah! Sing a New Song to GOD. Sing HIS praise in the assembly of godly people. Psalm 149:1.

"Have Your Way", 2025, Jackie Legere

A sweet and gentle song about humbling yourself.
