Dealing with the Troublemaker . . . Victoriously!

I will say with flawless confidence we all have encountered that annoying person at work who...

  • is Nosy
  • Noisy
  • Spreads rumors
  • Is a slacker
  • Promotes unrest
  • Lies, cheats, and maybe even steals your lunch!

Here is my silent scream...Aughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

My son has been a supervisor for roughly a year now. Since we occasionally ride together in our daily commute, I always ask him to give me a story about his day. What he tells me is comedy gold; you could base a sit-com on the shenanigans that happen in his office!

The real lesson comes when he shares what he "really" wanted to say versus what he "actually" said. Then, we dive into how to deal with that kind of destructive behavior. During these drives, I share my own experiences, always laced with timeless biblical principles. This led us to compile the brief guide below on how to deal with a workplace troublemaker while reflecting Christian character.

Do not get pulled into their into their lair

The first focus is on your own response and attitude, regardless of the other person's actions.

  • Check Your Own Heart.
3 “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye[c] when you have a log in your own? 4 How can you think of saying to your friend,[d] ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye?  (Matthew 7:3-5).

  • Striking back in the same manner as they are delivering typically ends with you taking a fall. Respond with Gentleness and Peace:

"A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." (Proverbs 15:1)

"If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all." (Romans 12:18)

  • Aim for your response to be
"Always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone." (Colossians 4:6)

  • Always be a good witness
"Maintain an excellent reputation so that those who speak will be ashamed when they see what a good life you live because you belong to Christ.(1 Peter 3:16)

  • Revenge is never the response
"Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing..." (1 Peter 3:9)

Distance yourself from this person

"As for a person who stirs up division, after warning him once and then twice, have nothing more to do with him." (Titus 3:10-11)

Yes...you must pray for their well-being

Jesus said, "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." (Matthew 5:44)

Act with wisdom and not impulse

"A house is built by wisdom and becomes strong through good sense." (Proverbs 24:3).

"A fool is quick-tempered, but a wise person stays calm when insulted." (Proverbs 12:16)

My son's bosses have taken note of his approach. They like what they see in terms of how he deals with people and are preparing him for advancement. Sound biblical principles are practical, wanted, and they work. Ponder on that.

Song of the Week -

Hallelujah! Sing a New Song to GOD. Sing HIS praise in the assembly of godly people. Psalm 149:1.

"Psalm 91 (HE Will Cover with HIS Feathers)', 2025, KIng's Blues Club

As a guitarist, the blues was the foundational genre I first learned, giving me a deep and lasting affinity for the style. This song fits beautifully and vividly with the emotion of the Psalm.

The vocals are raw and earthy, while the guitar work absolutely screams through the sound of an old-school tube amplifier. The tone is perfectly set—a tad distorted, yet incredibly expressive. This isn't just music; it's a soulful, electric conversation.

Lyrics

I dwell in the shadow of the Most High
Under His wings, I'm safe tonightTrouble may rise, the storm may rollBut His truth is a shield, it covers my soul
Oh, Lord, You are my refuge!(Yes, He's my refuge!)My fortress and my song(He keeps me strong!)Through the fire, through the valley(He carries me on!)You're the strength I lean upon!
Ten thousand fall in death at my sideStill, Your hand will be my guide! (Uh uh)Angels will watch me, day and night (uh uh)Hold me steady 'til morning light!
Oh, Lord, You are my refuge!(Yes, He's my refuge!)My fortress and my song(He keeps me strong!)Through the fire, through the valley(He leads me on!)You're the strength I lean upon!
I will not fear the arrow that flies by dayNor the terror that walks in the nightFor the Lord is with meHe is my salvationMy everlasting light
Oh, Lord, You are my refuge!(Yes, He's my refuge!)My fortress and my song(He keeps me strong!)Through the fire, through the valley(He carries me on!)You're the strength I lean upon!
Leaning on you Lorduh (oh, uh oh)Leaning on you (uh oh, uh oh)You, you uh
