Neo-Empowerment
Jo and I are Arlington Virginia while I attend a conference.   We used public transit to get around the DC area.  The thing that hits you right is the diversity of this area on the streets.  Every strain of humanity can be found here.  It is a wonderful thing to behold.

What comes with this level of diversity is all of the culture that makes our lives rich and interesting.  Unsurprisingly, it also comes with things that are not my cup of tea.

Your mission should decide to accept it is to love these people.

There is a tried and true saying, you can't teach an old dog new tricks.  I have seen the validity of this saying way too many times.  For many people it takes a miracle for them to change.

Here is where the Holy Spirit steps in.

My upbringing in the church was about the Holy Spirit gifts in action. I still appreciate this upbringing and the impact of the gifts on lives.  I earnestly want to use them.  However, what is often buried in the passage about Holy Spirit gifts is the greatest gift, that being love.  Here are excerpts on my point from Corinthians chapters 11, 12, and 13.

LOVE'S WAY

The best way
Chapter 11:13 But now let me show you a way of life that is best of all.

The greatest way
13:13 Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.

The Way to Love
12:4-7 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

Bu, la, nein, hapana, which is the Chinese, Arabic, German, and Swahili way of saying no.  Someone out there may be saying it is not humanly possible to consistently do the Ways of Love.

Au contraire,  
You can . . .
You must . . .
You will be equipped in miraculous way by the Holy Spirit to function in a way cannot alone.

He will Equip
Hebrews 13:21
May the Holy Spirit equip you with all you need
    for doing His will.
May He produce in you,
    through the power of Jesus Christ,
every good thing that is pleasing to Him.
    All glory to Him forever and ever! Amen.

It is a Good Son-Day Indeed Mother's Day Menagerie Here is Your Mother I am blessed in so many ways to be surrounded so many wonderful women who have brought into the world exceptional human beings.  Thank God every day for the mothers who have impacted my life.  I know when I need them they will be there for me and they know I will reciprocate. Recently, I sat in on a conversation with some employees outside one of our buildings.  The conversation turned to a Minneapolis suburb called "Blaine".  They talked about the vivid dichotomy between the impoverished trailer parks and the lavish homes in the new developments.  I then cringed when I heard them refer to the people residing in the trailer homes as "White Trailer Trash" and this was uttered by a person of the same color.
