When Commemorating Passion Awakens Purpose

Good Son-Day!!!

Ezekiel 37:12-14
Prophesy to them and say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: O my people, I will open your graves of exile and cause you to rise again. Then I will bring you back to the land of Israel. 13 When this happens, O my people, you will know that I am the Lord. 14 I will put my Spirit in you, and you will live again and return home to your own land. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken, and I have done what I said. Yes, the Lord has spoken!’”

When Commemorating Passion Awakens Purpose

This is the fifth Sunday of the Lent season. The focus today is on preparing for the Passion. In short, it means we slow down and dive deeply into the Word, meditating on the final period of Jesus’ earthly life: His suffering, betrayal, arrest, resolve, crucifixion, and unwavering dedication to His mission.

This meditation invites us to pause and remember that our innocent Christ loved us so deeply that He stepped into the place of the guilty, carrying a criminal's punishment He did not deserve so we could receive a redemption we could never earn.

At the Last Supper, the very first Communion emphasized the importance of remembering what He was about to endure:

Luke 22:14–20
14 When the time came, Jesus and the apostles sat down together at the table. 15 Jesus said, “I have been very eager to eat this Passover meal with you before my suffering begins. 16 For I tell you now that I won’t eat this meal again until its meaning is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God.”
17 Then he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. Then he said, “Take this and share it among yourselves. 18 For I will not drink wine again until the Kingdom of God has come.”
19 He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

This is not a passive request from Christ. It is a directive. He knows the human heart, how easily we drift, how quickly we forget, how our attention shifts to lesser things. Remembering His sacrifice isn’t for His benefit; it is for ours. His love refreshes us. His love sustains us.

Christ completed His mission of love, and we have one too. When our God‑given assignment gets buried under everything else, Scripture calls us to renew our surrender, refocus our hearts, and rekindle the fire of purpose God placed within us.

Our Assignment of Love
Ephesians 2:10
God planned for us to do good things and to live as He has always wanted us to live. This is why He sent Christ to make us what we are.

If your assignment is waning, if it has slipped to the backburner while everything else demands your time and energy, it’s time to renew your surrender and revive your vigor for God’s mission in your life.

Here is a scripture that is a direct call to rekindle spiritual devotion to your mission:
Revelation 2:4–5
4 But I do have something against you! And it is this: You don't have as much love as you used to.
5 Think about where you have fallen from and then turn back and do as you did at first.

So, as we stand on this Fifth Sunday of Lent, let your heart breathe in the weight and wonder of His love. Let the memory of His Passion not only humble you but awaken you. Let it stir up the assignment God planted in you long before you knew it was yours. And if life has crowded out your calling, if the fire has cooled or the clarity has blurred, this is your moment to rise again.

Return to the One who has never stopped pursuing you. Let His love rekindle what has dimmed, rebuild what has weakened, and reignite the purpose waiting patiently within you. For the Christ who finished His mission of love now invites you to walk boldly in yours, renewed, restored, and ready to begin again.
Hallelujah! Sing a New Song to GOD. Sing HIS praise in the assembly of godly people. Psalm 149:1.

"Still", 2025, Jonathan McReynolds & Jamal Robert

A song born from the well of God’s unending, ever‑gracious love. A love that wraps, restores, and reaches farther than we ever can. The recommendation of the song is inspired by a quiet, sacred moment shared with my sister. I hope it blesses all who hear it.  Click on the closed captions to see the lyrics in the video.
